California Faculty Association
Welcome to the website of the San Diego State University Chapter of the California Faculty Association! The California Faculty Association (CFA) is the statewide organization that represents the 23,000 professors, lecturers, librarians, counselors and coaches who teach in the California State University (CSU) system. The CSU is the largest university system in the United States, and by original design, it exists to provide an opportunity for everyone seeking higher education. As the faculty bargaining agent, CFA negotiates collective bargaining agreements with the CSU administration, promotes academic freedom, upholds faculty rights, delivers financial protection for the faculty, and promotes faculty participation in the governance of the CSU and of CFA. If you are not a member, I encourage you to join. Please call our office at 594-2775 or visit us in Communication 227, or simply send an e-mail stating your interest in joining to: cfa@mail.sdsu.edu. I hope you will join our efforts. We are also the local chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). AAUP aims “to advance academic freedom and shared governance, to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education, and to ensure higher education's contribution to the common good.” The AAUP has developed standards and procedures for maintaining quality in education and academic freedom in this country's colleges and universities. AAUP works in the courts, the legislature, and with College administrations to promote and defend academic freedom and faculty rights. CFA members may obtain free membership in the AAUP. Feel free to contact our office at (619) 594-2775 if you have questions about the California Faculty Association or if we may assist you. Sincerely, Carole Kennedy Associate Professor of Political Science .
